Regular cleanings
Once tartar has formed, only your dentist or hygenist can remove it with a professional cleaning. Dental professionals also use sealants to help protect molars from decay.

Once tartar has formed, only your dentist or hygenist can remove it. The process of removing tartar is called a prophylaxis ("prophy" for short). During a prophy, the dentist or hygenist uses a special instrument to clean the tooth above and below the gumline. As with many health concerns, prevention is the key. Proper oral care at home can greatly reduce tartar build-up and also help make the next prophy a little easier. |
